Conway, Ark. – Central Baptist College athletic director Lyle Middleton has announced the hiring of a new head men's basketball coach. Cody Henson has been hired to replace Sam Kohnke, who departed last month after four seasons at the helm.
"After reviewing a strong pool of applicants, Cody's coaching background and experience really stood out," said Middleton. "He's a proven recruiter with a great reputation at multiple levels of the game. I'm confident he can continue building on the success our men's program has achieved in recent years. Most importantly, he understands the mission of CBC and knows how to bring in student-athletes that embody that mission."
Henson comes to Conway after four seasons as an assistant coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State, an NCAA Division II school in Alva, Okla. He helped lead the Rangers to a 62-52 record in four years including a 14-15 record last season.
"First and foremost, I want to give God all the glory for opening this door at CBC," said Henson. "I would like to thank President Langley and Coach Middleton for trusting me to lead the men's basketball program."
Prior to his time at NWOSU, Henson spent two years as the Director/Head National High School coach at Elevation Prep in Fort Wayne, Ind. At Elevation, he coached over 20 players that signed to play at the collegiate level. Before Elevation, Henson was the Head Basketball Coach/Director of United Prep in Fla., and previously held an assistant role at Lincoln Academy in Suwanee, Ga.
He inherits a team that went an impressive 27-6 last season and made their second straight trip to the second round of the NAIA National Tournament.
"I am super excited to get to work at CBC. It's an awesome place that stands firm on morals and principles to help guide our next generation," Henson added. "CBC has a rich history of great coaches who have laid a great foundation for us as a staff to come in and be successful. I am looking forward to bringing a quality program to the floor each night that represents resilience and grittiness!"
The first chance to see the Mustangs on the floor at Reddin Fieldhouse will be October 23rd so be sure to come out and support the Mustangs this season. An introductory video will be released on the CBC Athletics YouTube channel tomorrow.
