AMC Cross Country Runners of the Week - Week 2

St. Louis, Mo. - William Woods University's Mekayla Gibson and Missouri Baptist University's Donovan Denslow have been selected as the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Cross Country Runners of the Week. They were selected from nominees submitted by each institution based on their performances from Sept. 4-10 and chosen through a vote of Sports Information Directors from around the AMC.
AMC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Mekayla Gibson
Jr. | Owensville, Mo.
- Won the Cottey College Invitational in 18:32.77 (5K race).
- Broker her previous PR (18:59.0) by 27 seconds.
- Finished 39 seconds ahead of Missouri Baptist's Mia Reed, who crossed the line second.
- Led the Owls to a second-place finish in the meet, four points behind winner, Missouri Baptist (40-44 points)
- Kiana Garcia, Cottey: Improved her PR by over 30 seconds with her 20:05 finish at the Cottey Invitational
AMC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Donovan Denslow, Missouri Baptist
Sr. | Eoila, Mo.
- Won the Cottey College Invitational in 25:09.46 (8K race).
- Second meet win in as many races this year.
- Finished 29 seconds ahead of the second-place runner
- Spartans finished in third place as a team with 69 points.
- Second consecutive AMC Runner of the Week honor
