William Woods Wins AMC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship

St. Louis, Mo.- [Championship Page] The William Woods Owls won their Conference-best eighth, American Midwest Conference (AMC) Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Thursday, at Spartan Field in St. Louis, Mo.

Less than 20 points separated the top-3 finishers as the Owls scored 176 points followed by Columbia (162 points) and Missouri Baptist (157 points). Cottey (88) and Health Sciences and Pharmacy (58) rounded out the top-five team scores.

Championship Notes:

• Madalenn Fee from Cottey secured Athlete of the Meet, scoring 34 points from a first-place finish, three second place finishes and a third-place finish. She won the 800-meter run (2:20.11), took home silver in the 1500-meters (4:43.17), long jump (5.10m) and as part of the 4x400 relay team (4:10.13), and placed third in the 3000-meter steeplechase (12:27.91).

• Mia Reed from Missouri Baptist was named Outstanding Track Athlete. She finished first in the 3000-meter steeplechase (11:22.48) and 400m hurdles (1:05.49). Reed was a part of the Spartans group who won the 4x400 (4:03.52) and 4x800 (10:06.12) relays. Reed also posted a 5:02.94 in the 1500m, placing fifth.

• Kaylyn Powers from Hannibal-LaGrange won Outstanding Field Athlete. She placed first in the hammer throw (44.50m), shot put (12.97m), and second in discus (38.17m).

• Newcomer of the Year honors went to Kate Soukup from Cottey. Soukup earned the award after she placed sixth in the 800-meters (2:30.20) and helped Cottey finish second in 4x400 (4:10.13) and 4x800 (10:15.87) relays.

• Angela Ward from Missouri Baptist won Freshman of the Year. Ward posted a podium finish in the 400m, finishing second with 58.67. She helped the Spartans win the 4x400 (4:03.52) and 4x800 (10:06.12) relays.

• Two athletes hit "A" standard in javelin, Madeline Burton from Columbia (41.48m) and Natalie Thomas from William Woods (40.69m).

• The Missouri Baptist's Mia Reed and Adrienne Rockette both hit "B" Standard in the 3000-meter steeplechase.

• Seven athletes defended their title. Missouri Baptist's Mia Reed won her third straight steeplechase title and second straight in the 400-meter hurdles. Cottey's Hannah Hayduk and Missouri Baptist's Alaina Scott set AMC records in defending their 400-meter dash (58.48) and pole vault (3.40m) titles, respectively. Cottey's Madalenn Fee (800-meters), Health Sciences & Pharmacy's Taylor Washington (100-hurdles), William Woods' Mekayla Gibson (10K) and Williams Baptist's Kaylee Clark (high jump) all repeated as AMC Champions. Scott and Clark joined Reed as three-time winners of their respective events. Missouri Baptist also defended its title in the 4x800 relay.
