Written by Chris Richardson, Assistant SID, Williams Baptist College
Walnut Ridge, Ark. - The Williams Baptist College men's soccer team hosted Park University on Saturday afternoon in the first ever American Midwest Conference Game of the Week. The Pirates rallied from an early WBC goal to take the match 4-1.
Matheus Allonso (JR/Sorocaba, Brazil) continued his rampant scoring outburst with a goal in the seventh minute, putting the Eagles up 1-0. He received a long pass from Diego Santillan (JR/Tamaulipas, Mexico), then spun to his left and launched a shot from 45 yards out to beat Park's Lucas Vallilo. It was the striker's ninth goal of the season, which leads the AMC. Santillan was credited with the assist.
Park responded with an equalizing goal from Mario Erpel in the 33rd minute. Nicolas Andre was awarded the assist.
The Pirates scored again three minutes later with a goal from Lucas Souza. He received a pass from teammate Rodolfo Lopez and fired a left-footed shot past Javier Piedra (JR/Fort Worth, Texas) into the top left corner of the net. Park held a 2-1 lead at the end of the first half.
Gabriel Alves put away a penalty kick for Park after teammate Cyril Gadu was fouled inside the WBC box.
The final goal came in the 89th minute as Mirko Sandivari was the beneficiary of a cross from Lucas Souza, who stole the ball from a WBC defender in his own box.
As a team, Park (4-0-2, 2-0-1 AMC) out-shot Williams (4-3, 1-2 AMC) 15-7 for the match. Gadu posted a game high five shots, with three of them being on goal.
