Missouri Baptist Claims First AMC Indoor Track & Field Championship

ELSAH, Ill. - Missouri Baptist University edged out Columbia College for their first American Midwest Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday evening.
With the help of an all-around performance from Mayson DeRousse, the Spartans collected 163 points to the Cougars' 161 to win the first indoor championship in program history.
DeRousse, a senior from De Soto, Missouri, collected victories in the pole vault, the long jump, and the 4x400m relay. He additionally took home silver medals in the high jump and the 200m dash. After the meet, DeRousse was awarded the Newcomer of the Year award, the Outstanding Field Athlete award, and the Athlete of the Meet award. Missouri Baptist also collected the Coaching Staff of the Year award.
Jordan Crawford and Donovan Denslow contributed to the overall team accomplishment as well, with a Crawford win in the 3000m race walk and a Denslow win in the 3000m run.
In a close second was Columbia with five individual champions, including the Freshman of the Year Ethan Phillips, who won the triple jump event with a mark of 12.84m. Other gold winners for the Cougars were Carter Brocato in the 600m run, Alexander Dukes in the 3000m race walk, Malachi Jackson in the 60m hurdles, and Zane Torreyson in the shot put.
Landon Dunlap and William Woods Owls had a strong showing in third place. The Outstanding Track Athlete won the 800m run and the mile run, while Quentin Webert found gold in the weight throw.
Missouri Baptist and Columbia tied for the most individual event champions in the meet with five, followed by William Woods with four, Health Sciences & Pharmacy with three, Hannibal-LaGrange with two, and Lyon with one.
