AMC Trio Named NAIA Softball All-Americans
St. Louis, Mo. -Three American Midwest Conference (AMC) softball players were named to the NAIA All-America Team, announced on Tuesday by the National Office.
Lauren Johnson, from Cottey College, earned Second Team All-America honors for the second consecutive year. The senior catcher played in 51 games for the Comets hitting a team-high .393, third-best in the AMC. She led the Conference in slugging percentage (.767) and on base percentage (.495) .
Missouri Baptist University's Brooklyn Fischer, the Conference Pitcher and Newcomer of the Year and Williams Baptist University's Madyson Shoebottom, the Conference Player of the Year, were both named to the Third Team.
In the pitching circle, Fischer ranked second in the AMC with 16 victories and a 1.43 ERA, and third with 137 strikeouts. Offensively, the sophomore utility player finished second in the AMC in batting average (.430), on-base percentage (.494), and extra-base hits (33), and ranked third in hits (64) and slugging percentage (.758).
Shoebottom, the AMC Player of the Year, led the Conference with 70 hits and a .432 batting average. She finished in the top-5 in runs batted in (3rd, 51), slugging percentage (4th, .735) and on-base percentage (5th, .462). The sophomore, led all AMC shortstops with a .963 fielding percentage, earning the Conference Gold Glove at the position.
