English Claims Final Women?s Basketball Player of the Week Honor
St. Louis, Mo. – Columbia College guard Heather English helped the Lady Cougars finish the regular season with two victories last week to become this week's American Midwest Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week in the final week of the season.
With the wins, the Lady Cougars are Co-Champions of the Regular Season with Lyon College but claim the No. 1 seed in the postseason tournament that will start tonight with play-ins and quarterfinals slated for Wednesday night.
English, a junior from Boonville, Mo., averaged 21 points and 7.5 rebounds on the week with wins over Harris-Stowe and No. 22 ranked William Woods. On Wednesday the 5-10 guard dropped in 15 points and grabbed four rebounds to add to her career total of well over 1,000 points now. She followed that appearance with a 27-point, 11 rebound effort against the Owls. In addition, she added six assists on the week while shooting 43 percent from the field, 50 percent from beyond the arc and 80 percent from the charity stripe.
Heather continues to lead the Lady Cougars in points, steals and blocks this season and is ranked No. 10 in the NAIA in total steals with 84.
The No. 15 ranked Lady Cougars will take on eighth seeded Park University at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27th in the quarterfinals.
