Columbia College Crowned as the AMC Women's Indoor Track & Field Champions

ELSAH, Ill. - The Columbia College Cougars won the American Midwest Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday evening after a dominating overall performance. Columbia, with 239-points, beat out William Woods with 151 points and Missouri Baptist with 125 points.
In addition to the title, the Cougars also took home a few awards. Madeline Burton was named the Freshman of the Year and Co-Athlete of the Meet with teammate Lily Ashrafzadeh, while their coaches were selected as the Coaching Staff of the Year.
Burton turned in several strong performances across the board, including a second-place finish in the triple jump, a third-place finish in the long jump, and a fifth-place finish in the 60m dash to go along with top-15 finishes in the 60m hurdles, the shot put, and the 800m race.
Ashrafzadeh, on the other hand, took home the silver medal in four events in the 60m dash, the 200m dash, the 4x400m relay, and the long jump. Josephine Wright (high jump) and Halie Moeller (600m run) also made massive contributions to the collective effort by winning their respective events.
The Owls of William Woods had a few standouts that led them to a second-place finish. Alicia Engelbrecht won both the 3000m and the 5000m races while Katie French continued her impressive season in the shot put and weight throw, winning both of those events.
The third-place Missouri Baptist Spartans also had a few athletes pick up individual awards in Mia Reed and Maegan Saleh. Reed was chosen as the Outstanding Athlete of the Meet after winning the one-mile run, the 1000m run, and the 4x400m relay while taking second place in the distance medley relay. Saleh earned the Outstanding Field Athlete of the Meet after placing first in the long jump, first in the triple jump, and fourth in the 60m dash.
The Spartans also took home the most individual champions, posting eight first-place finishes in 20 total events.
