Ten AMC Athletes and Two Relay Teams Set to Compete at NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships
Brookings, S.D- The American Midwest Conference will be well represented at the 2024 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships in Brookings, S.D., as ten athletes and two relay teams have qualified for the Championships on Feb. 29-Mar. 2 at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
William Woods' Mekayla Gibson will compete in both the 3000 and 5000-meter runs, and other than those who may compete in relays, she is the only AMC athlete to qualify for multiple events.
Missouri Baptist is sending the largest contingent from the AMC as Emily Farchmin (600-m), Mia Reed (1000-m), women's 4x800 relay team, Donovan Denslow (5000-m) and Mayson DeRousse (pole vault) will be competing for the Spartans.
Joining Gibson to represent the Owls are Landon Dunlap (mile) and the men's distance medley relay team.
Gavin Frantz (weight throw) and Brenin Howell (shot put) from Columbia College have qualified for the National Championships, as has Cottey's Madalenn Fee (1000-m) and Hannibal-LaGrange's Isaiah Hoelscher (weight throw).
Denslow, Frantz and Hoelscher are returning to Indoor Nationals in their respective events for the third consecutive year. Denslow is a returning All-American in the 5000-meter run, finishing fifth (14:42.75) a year ago.
Reed, Gibson (5K), Dunlap and DeRousse qualified for their second time. Reed, Gibson and Dunlap return from last year's Championship; DeRousse competed in 2022.
DeRousse's qualifying mark of 5.15-meters in the pole vault ranks second among the 21 qualifiers. Denslow is seventh among 38 competitors in the 5000-meter run with a time of 14:35.59. Reed's time of 2:58.84 in the 1000-meter run is ninth of 21 qualifiers.
