ROMERO, HUFFMAN, JENSEN CLAIM FINAL AMC WEEKLY VOLLEYBALL AWARDS
ST. LOUIS – The American Midwest Conference has announced its final volleyball weekly award winners for the week ending on November 6, 2016, and all three honorees are multi-time winners of their respective awards. Park University's Wendy Romero claimed her fifth AMC Attacker of the Week award, Megan Huffman took her sixth Setter of the Week honor, and Jessica Jensen was named the Defender of the Week for the second time.
Romero, a 6-0 senior outside hitter from Cojedes, Venezuela, played just one match during the week, but she took center stage on Senior Night at the Breckon Sports Center. Romero belted 15 kills in a three-set win over William Woods, helping the Pirates complete their second unbeaten AMC season in the last three years. Romero added seven digs, four aces, and a block in the match; and she hit .370 in the straight sets win.
Huffman, a 5-10 freshman from Columbia, Ill., helped the Spartans secure the second seed in the AMC Championship with a pair of wins over Hannibal-LaGrange University on the week. She dished up 37 assists in the AMC match against the Trojans on Senior Night at the Petty Sports and Recreation Center on Tuesday, and she bettered that number with 42 assists in a non-conference match between the two teams two nights later. She averaged over 13 assists per set in the two matches, and in the second tilt, she added 11 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.
Jensen, a 5-3 freshman libero from Downs, Ill., averaged six digs per set as the Owls split two matches on the week. She had 25 digs in a 3-2 win over Evangel University in non-conference action, and she added 11 more in a loss to NAIA #6 Park. She was also a perfect 48-for-48 in service receptions this week.
