ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The American Midwest Conference (AMC) has announced its first-ever AMC Women's Tennis All-Conference Team.
Tamara Klimek of Missouri Baptist headlines the selections, as she was selected as the Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.
"Tamara deserves every bit of recognition she is getting," said Missouri Baptist Head Coach Cole Stevenson. "She's hardworking, a great teammate, extremely competitive and immensely talented. Words cannot explain how much she has impacted our tennis program."
Klimek finished the regular-season with an 11-1 record in the No. 1 singles position and 11-2 in the No. 1 doubles spot.
Missouri Baptist head coach Cole Stevenson was named AMC Women's Tennis Coach of the Year after leading the Spartans to an 12-3 record (4-1 in AMC), the No. 2-seed in the 2018 Unaffiliated Grouping Tournament and the Spartans are "receiving votes" in the latest NAIA Women's Tennis Coaches' Top 25 Poll for the first time since the 2015-16 preseason poll.
"I am very honored to have other great coaches that I look up to, vote for me," said Stevenson. "I cannot take any credit though, as my girls are just awesome and love each other so much."
Joining Klimek on the first-team are teammates Thais Castiglioni and Krista Tyson; and Karyna Sagalai, Julia Perez and Zlata Shuraeva from William Woods.
Perez (William Woods) finished the season with a 6-11 record (3-1 at No. 1 singles) to earn AMC Women's Tennis Freshman of the Year. Perez helped the Owls to a 13-6 overall record and the No. 1-seed in the Unaffiliated Grouping Tournament.
Ana Zavala (William Woods), Selinde Tatum (Freed-Hardeman), Teah Flynn (Lindenwood-Belleville), Emily Stevenson (St. Louis Pharmacy), Felicia Cesar (William Woods) and Nahir Montoya (Lindenwood-Belleville) all earned Second-Team All-Conference.
The AMC has also announced the inaguarl Champions of Character Team and Academic All-AMC Team.
The American Midwest Conference Champions of Character Team highlights one individual from each of the participating schools that shows excellence in the five NAIA core values of respect, integrity, responsibility, servant leadership and sportsmanship.
